Hector Aguilar Camin (1946) was born in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, in southeastern Mexico. He received the Premio Nacional de Periodismo (National Journalism Award) 1986, Ichiiko Prize for Cultural Works (1997) and Mazatlán Prize for Literature (1998). 'Es resplandor de la madera' (The Glow of the Wood) narrates the loss of familiar realm of Caesars and their reconciliation to the mills of time through art of love and memory. The novel goes back and forth from the mythical past of the first Caesars to the final heirs to that lost power and its legend. Like any reconciliation, that of the Caesars is a catharsis of grief and an acceptance of the world as it is: their covenant with their inner demons as payment for their answered prayers. Novel and epic, 'Es resplandor de la madera' (The Glow of the Wood) is the story of several generations of Caesars all marked by an obsession to fulfill their dreams, only to see these dreams dissolve when they achieve the power to achieve them. 'Out of the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made', says Kant in a section of this book. One should add: without the crooked timber of humanity, no literature worthy of the name could ever have been written. Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION The Glow of Wood should be regarded as an exceptional novel within the field of Mexican literature. Joaquin Marco The Glow of Wood is the story of Casares, a Mexican young man from low socioeconomic origins who, marked by the aspirations instilled by his mother, takes on his studies and his professional life very seriously in order to try to get out of his misery and ignorance without getting lost along the way, which is precisely what happened to his father, who after investing in impossible businesses lost all his fortune, his identity, and his family. But the great Aguilar Camin goes far beyond this heartbreaking individual story and combines Casares' misadventures with the story of his own ancestors and the Yucatan peninsula, where the novel takes place.
